Over the last 20+ years, through my exhibitions, events, art projects, courses and workshops, I’ve met so many interesting mindful people in Europe and also Japan.
My pages and SNS have connected me with people all over the world . I’m so grateful to have both sides of artistic skills. Thanks to my two passions – calligraphy and painting. Without them I would not have discovered my own style of art form Neo-Japonism, nor created the unique Painted Poem series.
The poem shown here is a total inspiration-circle of calligraphy/ brush movements synchronised with our ways of life.

“ KOTOBUKI Ⅱ – A long joyful life ”
( accompanying poem )
ぬいて はらって — とめ
長く ゆっくり のぼってく
A restless journey
A non-stop Kotobuki-life
Flow to fly
Turn to sink
Pull to sweep – and stop –
Circle around to the above and swim up
Long and slow – we are going up again

I hope you had a great start of the year 2019! This is the year of the boar 🐗
Best wishes for the New Year.
Let’s hope the year of the Boar will bring us courage, peace and harmony!
Kakizome 2019 書初め is ;
The first calligraphy of the year,
The New Year’s calligraphy.
Of course we have done with the Kanji
“ 亥 “ ;
means boar in the zodiac calendar.
Normally “ 猪 “ is commonly used for boar.
On the Kakizome day, a new brush is
often brought in symbolizing the new start / the beginning.
Here I share some Kakizome pictures of my daughter which we did on 3rd January.
Yes, sure – we did the warming-up practices as usual!
Here comes a picture from the children’s class this week!
All did excellent Kakizomes and I asked them to write their individual theme for 2019.
Enjoy the learning process.
Thank you very much for your support this year!
The end of year is the busiest season in Japan just like pre-Christmas time in Europe.
The actual 31st December is called OMISOKA 大晦日.
In order to welcome the new year with a transparent fresh mind, families come together to clean up the house clearing the dirt of the old year.
Normally it becomes so quiet and empty in the cities as many go back to their home town during this time.
Here is the perfect text to finish off the year!
; New Year’s Eve, end of year
年 Toshi ：year, season, years
越しKoshi : to transit, go over
Good bye the year of the Dog!!
Enjoy the last hours of 2018!
Dear students, colleagues and Shodo friends,
May Christmas season be filled with joy and light!
I share some pictures here.
The calligraphy papers are origami-ed, wrapped and up-cycled this year!
I hope you are enjoying the beautiful advent time!
All Shodo workshops are done for this year.
Lots of frosty-winter calligraphy texts.

: 方/ wide, four directions
訪 ; initially meant ‘ asking widely in order to follow a line of inquiry ‘ which involved ‘ visiting many people ‘ and – now ‘ to visit ‘ is a major meaning. It rarely means ‘ to inquire ‘ nowadays.

Next Workshop in Bad Säckingen is on Sunday, the 8th. April.

The text was ” Tsuru Ten ” : crane-sky
The Kanji 鶴 has 21 strokes and a complex composition with some major techniques.
天 has two side brushings and both Harai techniques. Relatively it has a simple straightforward balance line. One of the perfect Kanjis for the beginner to practise.
As we practise with one themed text here in the Bad Säckingen course, I suggested that a few new comers should concentrate on only 天 and those basic important techniques of the Kanji.
All did fantastic Shodo!
