Friend/friendship/友

I’d like to share an Otehon text TOMODACHI 友達: Friend/friendship.

This is a great text to practise various Harai techniques.

I know the SHINNYO radical is often a tricky one to practise for many learners. But trust me- More practise, better you get!

And it is such a beautiful movement your body would always remember!

My tip: please pay attention to the energy movement, specially “up-and-down” contrast in SHINNYO.

【友】 Tomo/ Yuu

Is developed from the pictograph of two hands: giving hands and helping each other, further developed into the meaning of sharing a same spirit/will.

From Winter冬 to Spring 春

From Winter to Spring!

Thank you to all who came to the Shodo workshop.

We had already beautiful spring texts.

Loads of -clear sky-sun lights-Peach festival- breath- heartfulness.

Compliment on your mindfulness process and high concentration!

I am happy to show you the art of Shodo.

Arigato!

A student of mine brought me some tasty Anpans from Hiro-Takahashi, Zürich-

Was all soooo yummy!

Gochisousama!

All wonderful works from the participants

And I would like to share some Winter snaps just to say “good bye” to the season.

❄️Calligraphy-ing on snow “with our finger-brushes.

It only lasts the moment…either way neither way.

I just can not help doing calligraphy on this beautiful paper like snow.

やっと降りてきた突然の雪。衝動を抑えきれず、冷たいとはわかってても 指で書かずにはいられない、、、 。

The year of the Boar 2019

I hope you had a great start of the year 2019! This is the year of the boar 🐗

Best wishes for the New Year.

Let’s hope the year of the Boar will bring us courage, peace and harmony!

Kakizome 2019 書初め is ;

The first calligraphy of the year,

The New Year’s calligraphy.

Of course we have done with the Kanji

“ 亥 “ ;

means boar in the zodiac calendar.

Normally “ 猪 “ is commonly used for boar.

On the Kakizome day, a new brush is

often brought in symbolizing the new start / the beginning.

Here I share some Kakizome pictures of my daughter which we did on 3rd January.

Yes, sure – we did the warming-up practices as usual!

Here comes a picture from the children’s class this week!

All did excellent Kakizomes and I asked them to write their individual theme for 2019.

Enjoy the learning process.

Happy Practice!

Toshikoshi 年越し

Thank you very much for your support this year!

The end of year is the busiest season in Japan just like pre-Christmas time in Europe.

The actual 31st December is called OMISOKA 大晦日.

In order to welcome the new year with a transparent fresh mind, families come together to clean up the house clearing the dirt of the old year.

Normally it becomes so quiet and empty in the cities as many go back to their home town during this time.

Here is the perfect text to finish off the year!

“Toshikoshi” 年越し

; New Year’s Eve, end of year

年 Toshi :year, season, years

越しKoshi : to transit, go over

Good bye the year of the Dog!!

Enjoy the last hours of 2018!

Arigato,

Rie

Ikigai 生き甲斐

📮This beautiful interesting book is published now!

Congratulations!

I enjoyed working on the cover and the calligraphy pieces.

Highly recommended!

” IKIGAI “- giving every day meaning and joy

by Yukari Mitsuhashi

‘The word ikigai is formed of two Japanese characters: iki, meaning life, and gai, meaning value or worth. Ikigai, then, is the value of life, or happiness in life. Put simply, it’s the reason you get up in the morning.’

Workshop in Bad Säckingen

Thank you to all those who took part in the Workshop in Bad Säckingen.

Great to see the familiar faces again after a long winter break and some new faces!

Compliment on your mindfulness!

Well done!!

Next Workshop in Bad Säckingen is on Sunday, the 8th. April.

Come and join if you live in the Basel area!!

The theme here was ” Cranes/ Tsuru ”

The cranes symbolize a long lasting love, relationship, good luck, a long life.

The text was ” Tsuru Ten ” : crane-sky

The Kanji 鶴 has 21 strokes and a complex composition with some major techniques.

天 has two side brushings and both Harai techniques. Relatively it has a simple straightforward balance line. One of the perfect Kanjis for the beginner to practise.

As we practise with one themed text here in the Bad Säckingen course, I suggested that a few new comers should concentrate on only 天 and those basic important techniques of the Kanji.

And

All did fantastic Shodo!
